South East London Business Growth Show - What Was In It For You?

It was a great show full of good networking opportunities, sponsored by Business Link and held in one of the new architectural monsters that have recently sprung up next to the O2 (formerly known as The Dome) on Greenwich Peninsula. Actually it was a chance for me to do some bonding with this areas because, apologies to the architects, but I don’t like the design of the new buildings adjacent to 02, they are too tall and ugly in shape, but oh my! How the area has developed… that is another story.

Are You Digital And Creative?
I think you may be more interested in knowing about the Business Incubator spaces at Ravensbourne – Innovation in Digital Media and Design – college, being provided in their new state of the art building, a stones throw from the O2.

“With support from the European Regional Development Fund Ravensbourne is now offering design and broadcasting professionals access to our expertise and resources, our leading thinkers and our cutting edge kit. And it’s free. Yes, all of it.” Find out more here...

Serviced Office Space – Any Takers?
And right next door on the 10th floor of 6 Mitre Passage, Greenwich Council is planning to provide some further serviced offices and business units – don’t quote me on this, but do check it out with Greenwich Council Economic Development Unit if you are interested (or contact me and I will provide you with a named person to contact).

There were several workshops on topics related to digital media that I found interesting and illuminating – Exploiting media innovation for business by Ian Wharton, Creative Partner at Zolmo and Chris Thompson, Director of Enterprise and Innovation at Ravensbourne; Social Networking Tips by John Coupland, @networkerplus.

For businesses not yet linked into local networks and knowledge there were people to talk to from the Federation of Small Business (I’m already a member), SE London Chamber of Commerce (I was a member and decided to rejoin at the event), Bexley Resources Plus and the Thames Innovation Centre. Bromley Borough was there to promote the Bromley Business Expo in June

I made some useful contacts and leads for my business and it was all provided free… so I decided to make the most of it as, who knows, this type of free event could soon be a thing of the past!
