Being Seen As Green Can Usually Save You Money!

We are all looking to make cost savings where we can in our business lives and now we can do this in such a way that also improves our marketing – a very attractive proposition. Combine this with the fact that there is new legislation to comply with and every business owner should take note. Most of us waste energy and usually without even thinking about it. However, with the advent of new technologies it is now easy to make cost savings without even having to switch to lower cost suppliers.

How many of us can say that we regularly review our lighting, heating, air conditioning and water management? Yet there are great opportunities here to make clear and genuine savings. Proper management of our waste disposal and recycling can also bring nice surprises in simple cost savings without too much effort. Businesses generating food waste in particular can see spectacular financial results. A good example being a four star hotel in London Docklands who is saving a small fortune by selling their waste cooking oil, which in turn is being used to produce bio-diesel. And improved management of transport is of huge interest with the continual rise in the cost of the fuel we buy.

There is of course the other huge bonus of helping to save the planet whilst we save money. This brings me on to the marketing opportunity this presents. These days, both the public sector and many large firms are looking for suppliers with green credentials. They want to be able to demonstrate how they are reducing their carbon footprint by insisting on having an environmentally friendly supply chain. And there is an increasing number of environmentally aware consumers who are much more discriminating about who they buy from.

Whatever business you are in, there is new environmental legislation that will affect you. It is very likely that this will present the cash-strapped local authorities with an easy route to impose environmental “fines” as another means of raising money.

The above is a guest blog by Richard Blight, Westminster Compliance: "we don’t just help businesses to comply with the law – we can now also show them how to directly increase profit margins. Our initial consultation is free so why not let us see how we can help you?"
